The beauty of design lies in its functionality. When this requirement came to us from one of India’s leading creative couple, we not only had to fascinate them with aesthetics but also provide them the multi-functional country home they desired. A reminisce of their multi-layered personality translated into a structure and its sub-parts that feels like it has been surviving through cultures, styles and centuries.
The plot is a narrow strip of land with diverse tropical flora that opens to the Periyar river on one end. We converted this narrow strip of land, without affecting the ecology into a mutli-dimesional and multi-purpose privately-public space. We designed a sixteen room luxury home-stay that could be compartmentalized and de-compartmentalized into singular or multiple units. It can simultaneously serve as the home for our client’s extended family while hosting guests in other private parts of the buildings.
This place has been aptly accentuated with a pool, an ayurvedic spa and a restaurant with functional amenities like seclusion of one building from the other, ample car park and easy accessibility. Our favorite part of the design however is the boat house created on unusable section of the river bank, haunted by temperamental tides. While it is functional enough to be accessed as a river thoroughfare, it can easily serve as the highlight of a splendid sunset.
